Direct answers from our senior laser applications engineers and quality inspectors.
How does Microfluidic.tech deliver prototypes in days instead of weeks?
Cleanroom photolithography and soft lithography molds take 4–8 weeks to prepare. Microfluidic.tech utilizes direct laser ablation and absorber-free laser bonding, machining functional microfluidic devices directly from CAD in 24 to 48 hours without cleanroom masks or chemical etching.
How does cold laser micromachining prevent melt ridges in microfluidic channels?
Conventional thermal CO2 lasers melt plastic, leaving recast beads and rounded corners that disturb laminar fluid flow. Lumicision and Microfluidic.tech use cold ultraviolet (355nm) and ultrafast picosecond laser beams. The high photon energy cleaves molecular polymer bonds photochemically before heat can conduct into surrounding plastic, producing crisp, rectangular channel profiles with optical surface roughness (Ra < 0.2 µm).
Do you accept university institutional purchase orders and research grants?
Yes. We routinely work with Canadian universities (U of T, McMaster, Waterloo, McGill, UBC) and US research centers. We accept official University Purchase Orders, institutional P-Cards, and provide itemized quotes tailored to Tri-Council (NSERC, CIHR), CFI, and IRAP grant requirements.
What polymers and glass materials do you support for microfluidics?
We process optical-grade Polycarbonate (PC), Cast Acrylic (PMMA), Cyclic Olefin Copolymer (COC/COP), PDMS, Borosilicate & Quartz Glass, and paper-based microfluidic diagnostic substrates.
